A new website and blog launched today in support of production on a new Canadian feature film about one of the most trsgic battles of World War I - Passchendaele.

The idea of late-night talk show host Craig Ferguson playing a drunken caretaker at a dive motel in Niagara Falls has promise. Nearly everything else in Niagara Motel does not, whether it's the young waitress thinking about a career in porn, a fly-by-night promoter who shakes down a stapler salesman, or a middle-class husband who's been downsized prematurely, forcing his wife to flirt with ideas of flesh peddling.

Niagara Motel, a dark comedy that's more dark than comedy, is veteran character actor Kevin Pollak's second turn as a low-life hustler in a Gary Yates movie - and maybe the principle is working, because his seldom-disputed talents leave us wanting more of the same.

In Fox's new dramedy Wonderfalls, Caroline Dhavernas plays Jaye Tyler, a disaffected 24-year-old with a philosophy degree from Brown and a souvenir-shop job in Niagara Falls, a town, of course, that straddles the line between the USA and Canada.

She has acted in six features since Wonderfalls - two star-studded Hollywood projects, one Quebec film, a Belgian flick, and a pair of English-Canadian indies: These Girls, which opened a few weeks back, and Niagara Motel, which opened here Friday.

Caroline Dhavernas was first introduced to U.S. television viewers through FOX's short-lived series Wonderfalls, but she's got quite the following in her native Canada ("like Britney Spears," says co-star Katie Finneran, much to Caroline's dismay). While the network cancelled the clever and sharp series after a mere four episodes, that was enough time for many fans to become as madly enamored with her as they had become with Wonderfalls itself. Luckily for them, the full 13-episode series of Wonderfalls has been released on DVD, and fans can also get their Caroline fix in several indie movies set to come out later this year.
