Will Hannibal‘s Will Graham eventually find love, or is he destined to go stag forever?

While the question is moot in the short run – at the moment, the guy’s a little busy recovering from brain-cooking encephalitis and being manipulated by a serial killer – it’s certainly something star Hugh Dancy is considering as his gory NBC drama reaches the end of its freshman season.

Can Dancy’s tormented profiler ever be a good, healthy match for Caroline Dhavernas‘ Alana? Here, the British actor gives TVLine his thoughts on the more-than-friendly pair and hints at what Dr. Lecter’s cooking up in the Season 1 finale (which airs Thursday, June 20 at 10/9c) and beyond.

Few characters are as entrenched in people’s minds as the sinister Dr. Hannibal Lecter. In the deliciously eerie TV series Hannibal, actor Mads Mikkelsen portrays Lecter in a new light. Based on the book Red Dragon by Thomas Harris, the show is a prequel to Silence of the Lambs and depicts the character as a brilliant psychiatrist working with the FBI to help gifted criminal profiler Will Graham—played by Hugh Dancy—stay focused and not be consumed by his personal demons. While FBI agent Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) pushes Graham to help him crack tough cases, Dr. Alana Bloom, a protégé of Lecter’s, does her utmost to advocate for Graham and keep him sane. Actress Caroline Dhavernas portrays Bloom as a character with deep empathy and the highest ethical standards—encouraging Crawford to not exploit Graham’s gifts at the risk of jeopardizing his well being.

After Georgia Madchen dies in an explosion, Will asserts that the copy cat killer is still alive. The BAU team links Abigail to the Minnesota Shrike victims and plan to arrest her only to find Will has checked her out of the hospital. Will's hallucinations intensify, causing him to lose Abigail in Minnesota. Meanwhile, Hannibal's subtle manipulation convinces Jack that Will is capable of murder. Hannibal makes an astonishing admission to Abigail.

When Dr.Gideon escapes from police custody, he seeks to kill psychiatrists who have profiled him. Will and the BAU team try to track him down by following Freddie Lounds' blog before Gideon can get to Alana. Hannibal misleads the BAU team in order to put Will in the same room as Gideon, and Jack questions Dr. Chilton regarding Gideon's escape.
