Because of the recent bombing in Boston, "Ceuf” was pulled from the schedule and replaced with "Coquilles”, the fifth episode in the season.  That episode involved someone teaching kids to murder other kids, which considering the way current news has been over the events going on in Boston, probably was the smart move.  But in order to still cover the subplots furthered in the season instead of focusing on the main plot of "Ceuf”, NBC has presented those pieces of subplot online to see.  Since its highly unlikely those in the U.S. will get to see "Ceuf” until the inevitable DVD release at best, this first part of this article will touch on those webisodes specifically.

Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and the BAU team track a serial killer whose bloody ritual includes cutting the victims' back flesh and stretching it to look like angel wings. Returning to the field weighs heavily on Will's psyche and Hannibal (Mads Miikkelsen) tries to drive a wedge between Will and Jack (Laurence Fishburne). Meanwhile, Jack Crawford's wife Bella (Gina Torres) pulls away from him and begins seeing Hannibal as her therapist, in an effort to come to terms with the fact she is dying. Beverly (Hettienne Park) tries to connect with Will on a more personal level.

How did it come about that NBC skipped the pilot-stage and went straight to a thirteen-episode order?

I think the studio, Gaumont TV, that was kind of their edict, ‘If you want it, you want it for thirteen episodes, and otherwise we’ll take it someplace else’, so NBC said ‘No, we want it.’

I think that they were bold in embracing the show because we sat down and said, ‘Why should we do this on NBC?’ And they said ‘Because we’ll let you tell the story that you want to tell’. Nudity and strong language aren’t really kind of cornerstones of the way I write anyway so…
